Consistent Skives Without Constant Attention

Traditional skiving requires two steps — one to take down the majority of the weld rod and another to level the seam. With a trim plate and skiving knife, installers must monitor the second pass closely; even slight changes in angle or pressure can leave the weld concave, creating low points where liquids may collect and gradually wear down the bond.

The Turbo Plane streamlines the entire process by removing material cleanly and evenly in a single stroke. Its balanced frame glides across the floor, producing a uniform, professional finish without the constant fine control demanded by traditional hand skiving.

Dual-Blade Design with Adjustable Control

The first blade is fixed to remove approximately half of the welding rod, leaving a consistent height for the second blade to finish. The second blade then brings the seam flush to the surface. The adjustment knob on top of the plane increases the angle of this finishing blade, helping installers compensate for welding rods with higher resistance or harder material composition. We recommend starting with the lowest setting and gradually increasing until skived seams sit perfectly flat and even with the floor.

Give It Time, Get a Flawless Finish

For the smoothest results, give the welded material about 30 minutes to cool and firm up before planing. Once the floor has settled, the surface stays stable under pressure, allowing the Turbo Plane to glide effortlessly across the weld and produce a perfectly clean, flush finish with minimal effort.

When to Use (and When Not To)

The Turbo Plane is ideal for vinyl and linoleum / Marmoleum flooring, providing fast, flush seams on both straight runs and curves. It should not be used on safety floors or other abrasive materials that contain diamond or mineral grit, as these surfaces will quickly dull the blade. For those applications, use the Trim Plate + Quarter Moon Knife to achieve a precise finish without blade wear.
